Super Falcons Secure First Olympics Ticket In 16 Years
The Nigerian women’s national team, the Super Falcons, have booked their ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics after a tense goalless draw against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in Pretoria on Tuesday.
This result, following a 1-0 victory in the first leg in Abuja, sees the Super Falcons return to the Olympic stage for the first time in 16 years. The last time the Falcons were at the Olympics was in Beijing 2008.

During the second leg, Nigeria carved out the first chance of the game with Kaylin Swart saving Chinwendu Ihezuo’s cross.
The Super Falcons were in total control of the game in the first half, with the hosts struggling to create any clear cut opportunity.
Goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, needed to be at her twice to deny the South Africans in the second half.
Both teams have played several times since their 7-1 win against South Africa in a 1995 World Cup qualifier in Johannesburg. They have met 24 times with Nigeria winning 15, five ended in draws and South Africa claimed victory four times.
